Christmas is next week!

Christmas is next week!

How much exercise will I do next week?  Probably a little less than usual.  However I have been working out a lot indoors using my treadmill and dumbells and it is going great!

My goal for the New Year is to lose 10 pounds, a goal I had last year, and I will achieve this time.

Let me know what your goals are for the new year!  Merry Christmas!

Got through the week

Just got back from my workout at a Gym in Ottawa.

Had a good workout.   Got through the week; went for three workouts though I had a cold. November was a good month.  Looking forward to December.  Have a great weekend!

Remember where you were at two months of Boot Camp

Hey.  Still working on my video updates!
Two Months of Boot Camp

Fitness - Working through a cold (November)

Greetings,
The weather is not great (Cold) and I have a head cold.  Best option is to use the treadmill at home. What helps is walking briskly for a while (20 minutes), do some sit ups and stretching.  Makes me feel better even though I have a head cold.

I have to decide if will join SOF boot camp in December.

Though we discuss much physical fitness, don't forget that it is a three fold balance, of Mind, Body, and Soul.

Have a great day!

Also, a good friend of mine also in Bootcamp for Six Months in 2014, attempted his first Half Marathon and completed it.  Kudos to my friend Bob!

Rain in Ottawa

Very Humid weather

It's very humid weather in Ottawa. It's best to be in an air-conditioned place.  Luckily I can do treadmill exercise indoors. I like to do Burpee's situps lunges and treadmill running indoors. That's my Monday routine.

Taking July off from Boot camp

Greetings, How is everyone doing this summer?  Watching FIFA soccer?
We have had hot enough weather, and after four months of boot camp I decided to take a one month BREAK, for the month of July.  That doesn't mean I am not doing some form of fitness at home.

I'm having a great summer and looking forward to returning to boot camp in August.
Have a great summer!

The Truth about Blogging and Fitness

Hey Folks, how are you?  When you get into a Boot camp and document your progress it becomes an addiction.  To see the progress is great, and you want to write your blog everyday.  That's the truth about Blogging and Fitness.

Summer Boot camp Hot and Sweaty

Exercising and Running on a hot June day is an experience, but an uncomfortable one.  So much sweat runs into my eyes, lol.  We had another pulled muscle and that was reason for concern, but it was a smaller injury than I thought, and my leg muscle is tender, but I am able to jog and exercise, but not sprint.
Have a great day!

Good workout this week

I had a great workout this week.  We were at the park and did our workout. Have a great week.

Hard to get back into it after a Cold bug

After 8 weeks and pushing myself and climbing hills, and being out of breath, and having a cold bug I feel hesitant to return to boot camp.  On the positive side, I have had a lot less muscular pain for one week.

At least the weather is a lot better for exercising outdoors.  Returning to boot camp will be a good thing.
Have a good day.

When you have a cold bug

Long week if you want to exercise and cannot due to a cold bug.  My joints are better, but I had fever, chills, and aches and had to work, but could make it to boot camp.  Next will be better.

Third month of Bootcamp

Hi Folks, there's a bigger group of Boot camp soldiers in May.  Instead of the one rank of 8 soldiers, we had 3 ranks of 6 soldiers.  It's nice to go on a run with about 20 people.

There are 10 sessions per month that I make it to.   So after 2 months, I have attended 20 sessions.  Those 20 grueling, and demanding sessions have had the result of changing my shape, and I finally dropped an extra 3 pounds that were so hard to lose.  I have to say, they told me that I would hurt, for a long time, and they were serious, after 2 months still alot of Tylenol being popped. I don't want to take Tylenol forever, so my body better stop hurting so bad.  Many recommend drinking a lot of water, and I try to drink1.5 liters per day, but perhaps I need more that that. It was recommended to take Calcium Magnesium too, and so I have started taking it.

Tonight should be an experience of burpies, suicides, and a longer jog/run.  Lots of sweat, shortness of breath, and shall I say it, Pain!?

Have a great day!

Another brand-new week of working out. I will definitely be doing some cardio today. And at least there's sunshine today for my run. Let me know if you will be doing cardio today.  Have a great day

Soon, Month of May - MORE BOOTCAMP! LOL

Howdy everyone and how are you doing?  I had the two most gruelling workouts in Bootcamp ever on Good Friday and Easter Monday.  We HIT THE HILL!

A very steep, tall hill like I have never seen before.  Jog/run all the way to the top! Over and over again.
On Good Friday we climbed the hill in Ottawa 3 times and that was enough for me, but the run that followed was a very long hard difficult run of about 5 km.

May will be my 3rd month of boot camp. With Soldiers of Fitness I am seeing some results, and feeling younger, and happier.  This is a great journey.

Six weeks of Boot Camp Complete!

I can't believe I am doing this!  I am 44 years old and quite overweight (but losing fat quickly with cardio workouts).  And now the sunsine is here and the possibility to train for a short 5Km run, in a weekend marathon (maybe?); well one thing at a time since I still have 2 more weeks of Boot camp.
I have a T-shirt from the boot camp club i belong to, and I may get a pic of me in that shirt on the blog tomorrow.
Get ready its going to be a great spring and summer.  But I have to say it was a very long winter.  Have a great day and have fun!

Monday- Fast and Furious

After 5 weeks of the boot camp style training, three times per week I have to up my game and start also doing some gym. I have a gym membership, and went to the gym this morning.  I feel great.  My leg is still sore, and I used the treadmill and jogged on this slightly sore leg, and I passed the test.  I can jog lightly for 10 minutes.  Later today I have a boot camp session.  I will take it slow, and listen to my body.
Going to the gym everyday this week, could push my into the zone I need to be in right now. Let's grow the network and let me know what fitness activities you are doing this week.

Weekend is here. What a week it was!

My leg cramp is going away slowly.  I still reported to boot camp on Thursday.  It was not a cardio day, but a strength day.  There were three stations.  First station had to do staggered push-ups, then bear walk to the next station.  I was not sure how my leg would feel, but it helped my leg to "bear walk".   At the next station we had to do diamond push ups and then onto the next station moving along "inch worm style".  The longest part was getting from one station to another doing the bear walk or inch walk.  Of course I sometimes need a pain reliever before my boot camp session.  And I properly stretch before boot camp.
I have a plan for the weekend.  My plan is to use the treadmill at home on Saturday and Sunday.  I will get to the gym for some weight training, chest exercises.  Having a plan is very important.  Do you have a plan?

Please leave your comments, I'd like to know what others fellow fitness people are doing for exercise on the weekend.  Th
anks for all your support, and have a great weekend! :)

Day One of ROUND-2 of Boot camp- I got a leg cramp!‏

I didn't expect this, but who ever expects to get a leg cramp.  I have not had one in years, and I have been jogging/walking a lot for months and yesterday around the half-way point of our run, the Cramp started in my calf.  I had to walk back to the muster point.  Darn, What a bum deal.  Not to mention the pain, every time you move your leg even a little bit.  We have stairs at home, and I use them constantly, so up and down the stairs was a slow process.
Everyone at boot camp gave me suggestions, start drinking more water (I suppose 1.5 litre per day minimum).
Today the pain is one third what it was yesterday, but it will take another 2 days for it to be totally gone (if I'm lucky).  Besides water, what are some other tips or ideas for not getting cramps?

Second Boot Camp Coming Up!‏

I decided to register for another month of Fitness Boot camp!  I did alright in the the March month of bootcamp and in the second month I need to really excel.  My goal is to lose 20 pounds, and I have lost 2 pounds so far.  I want to do another video soon and when I do I will announce it and post it here.
I think I need to add a little gym time into the mix, on alternate days.
Thanks for all your support folks.

Completed March Bootcamp!

Greetings everyone, and I have great news.  I completed my 12 sessions in the month of March, as part of a boot camp to accelerate my weight loss, and general fitness.  They presented me with two Graduation certificates (one for completing the first month of boot camp, the other for Most Improved).  That was great and it made me feel good.  Thanks to everyone who helped at the boot camp and everyone in the blogs who read them and Plus One'd my blogs.

Of course, as I have said it was an experience and most of the month I had aches and pains, and was almost sick to death in the hours leading up to bootcamp at 6.30pm.  But I did it.  I have less aches and pains today on March 28.  And now I intend to continue in April.

And when there was a running drill around the baseball diamond,  I was almost always at the back of the group, and team members would circle back and encourage me, and give me breathing tips when in a full jog.  I noticed that I can barely speak when jogging, but I am not used to it, but others are able to jog and talk and encourage others.
Thanks again to everyone and have a great weekend!

Two Classes Left for this month's Boot camp

Two Classes Left for this month's Boot camp, tonight and Thursday.  I have been through a head-spinning period on intense exercise in March.  I cannot wait to complete my next two sessions.  Every month is 12 sessions, and I will sign up for April's fitness month.  Tonight is a cardio night and tomorrow is a strength night.  I'm looking forward.

Three weeks into Boot camp and now starting to Feel better

Good morning everyone and I hope you're feeling as good as I am.  Finally after three weeks of serious hurt from exercise, and I had a restful weekend, and now I am feeling very good.  Confidence is up, body adjusting, and getting results.

Today I still want to warm up and stretch before my evening boot camp session.  I always do warm up and it helps.
Its still seriously cold in Canada, and my outdoor exercising will not be as fun in the cold.  It might be a cold last week of March.  I intend to do another video this week, and wrap up my review of one month of boot camp.  Thanks for reading, and feel free to plus me.

Norm's Ottawa Boot camp

Three weeks of Boot Camp complete

Today I am feeling good, after three weeks of Fitness boot camp.
We did one hour of strength training of the legs on Thursday evening.  We usually start with Jump Squats, and lunges, and drag tires!
Overall, our group put in a very good effort.  When I observe how I am doing compared to the others, I noticed some other people have strained issues, and have to stop for short breaks due to minor muscle spasms, or back pain.

Check out my video at Youtube:   http://youtu.be/x3ZnWl46zFw

Have a great weekend!

Norm's Bootcamp in Ottawa

The bootcamp program I chose is a program of 1 hour sessions, 3 days per week.
After I get used to this commitment of time, and when the better weather arrives then we will try to have fitness activity more than that.
I am confident that I can commit to these 3 days weekly.  I am feeling 'stronger' after only 2.5 weeks.

In these 1 hour sessions we are usually starting with some jumping jacks, push-ups, jumo squats and burpies.  After doing these activities for 10 minutes, we catch our breath and start an activity like jogging for 30-40 minutes.  Sometimes we pull tires with a rope behind us, and those tires feel heavy and drag. When the hour is up, we feel very tired.  I will give you an update soon, and have a great day.

2014 - Bootcamp!

I began the year by going to the gym again.  Going to the gym had me feeling good again.  I had some lactic acid build-up in muscles but it was not the worst pain.  Later in the winter, a friend asked me to join a Fitness Bootcamp and I thought long and hard about it.  I joined.
I had heard about bootcamps before and was curious.  I also figured it may be my last attempt to kick-start my health at middle-age, lest I slide into middle aged obesity (I was already over-weight, and riding the line between over-weight and obese).

The people at the bootcamp are in good shape- not like me.  They review the rules with you, and one of the rules is "Don't quit!".  So though I was the out-of-shape middle aged person in the platoon, I perservered.

Surviving a bootcamp can be dramtic, dealing with one's limitations and all the soreness associated with this harder intense physical training.  Some strength training exercises can be enjoyable, and I would like to improve my cardio and so I am doing my best to succeed.

I will try to keep you updated more regularly.   Have a good day.
